To create these artworks, found objects are positioned on a handmade gelatin matrix which has been inked. As the object makes contact with the soft gelatin, a textured impression is formed.
A manual printing process follows which involves placing vintage, handmade or repurposed papers onto the inked matrix and burnishing the paper by hand. The texture of the object is then transferred to the paper.
Because of the serendipitous nature of gelatin printing, each monoprint is unique in appearance and cannot be exactly re-created.
To create more complex images, further impressions can be made to the original print by adding additional ink to the matrix, repositioning, or introducing different objects, and repeating the print process.
